Evidence and limitations
Ketamine has been studied for treatment-resistant depression. A 2023 randomized trial compared IV ketamine with ECT in adults with nonpsychotic treatment-resistant major depression; its findings do not apply automatically to psychotic depression, every patient or every route. FDA-approved Spravato is esketamine, a different medication and administration program.

Finding care in Indiana
Compare the actual office address, administration route and supervising clinician. Indiana offices include Indianapolis, Lafayette, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Bloomington and regional communities. Winter weather and rural travel distances can affect repeated appointments. A listing does not mean a practice treats every condition or is accepting patients. Contact the office directly.
Questions for your physician
Discuss your diagnosis, previous treatments, medications, cardiovascular and psychiatric history, substance-use risks and follow-up plan. Ketamine and esketamine can cause sedation, dissociation and blood-pressure changes and require route-specific monitoring. Do not stop prescribed medication without your clinician's advice.
Costs, transportation and support
Ask for a written estimate and confirm your individual insurance benefits. Arrange a clinic-approved ride after dosing. Spravato requires a certified setting and at least two hours of observation; no driving until the next day after restful sleep.

What a course of treatment looks like
- 1
Free consultation
A clinician reviews your history, current medications and goals, then confirms whether ketamine is a safe fit for you.
- 2
Medical screening
Blood pressure, heart health and any medication interactions are checked before your first session.
- 3
First infusion
A low dose is given by IV over about 40 minutes in a calm, monitored room. Someone else drives you home.
- 4
Initial series
Most people complete about six infusions over two to three weeks while the team tracks how you feel.
- 5
Boosters as needed
Occasional maintenance infusions help sustain your results, scheduled around how you respond.
Other conditions we cover
Anxiety
Ketamine is not FDA-approved specifically for anxiety disorders. Evidence is smaller and more preliminary than the depression literature, and depression findings should not be presented as proof of anxiety treatment effectiveness. Established psychological and medication treatments remain part of a clinician-led assessment.
PTSD
A small 2021 randomized controlled trial studied repeated IV ketamine in chronic PTSD. It is useful research, but does not establish long-term effectiveness for all patients or other administration routes. Ketamine treatment for PTSD is off-label; discuss established trauma-focused care and medication options with a qualified clinician.
OCD
Ketamine is not FDA-approved specifically for OCD. Research is preliminary, and a response to ketamine in depression does not establish that it treats OCD. Ask a clinician about exposure and response prevention, medication and the evidence and risks for any off-label option.
Chronic Pain
Ketamine has been studied in selected chronic-pain conditions, but evidence, protocols and risk vary by diagnosis. Consensus guidance for IV ketamine in chronic pain does not support assuming that every pain condition benefits or that ongoing treatment is appropriate. Assessment by a licensed pain clinician is important.
